History of Youth Group
The Youth Group of Our Lady of Good Counsel Parish incorporates 9th-12th
grade students from many area high schools. Our Youth Group is a group
dedicated to its commitment to serve God and the Church.
The Youth Group serves on many different levels. Some parish activities
include: a monthly Youth Mass, facilitation of the diocesan Youth
Violence Forum for the 7th and 8th grade parish students, packing
items to be sent to Jamaica, baking and delivering Christmas cookies
to parish shut-ins, and an annual dramatic presentation of The 7 Last
Words during Lent.
Community service includes helping at Catholic Charities and collecting
items for Providence House (a shelter for abused women and their
children). Pretzel Sales and a Car Wash provide funds for charitable
donations which are made each year to the Missionaries of the Poor,
and at least 2 other local or national charities.
The Youth Group calendar of events includes speakers and discussions
on current topics of interest to teens, social and recreational
activities, a retreat, a lock-in, and various county and diocesan
sponsored activities. TYC is proud of its mission to know, love,
and serve God while providing its members a place to be themselves
and grow in their Catholic identity.
