Special Needs and Home Program

This year our parish theme is “Celebrate Eucharist.”  On Sunday, November 27, the revised mass texts will now be part of our Roman Missal.  We will be asked to learn different responses at Mass.  The children will be taught these responses throughout the coming months of fall and those involved in the summer sessions will also be part of these upcoming changes.  The words we say and hear at Mass are changing, but the Mass remains the same in essence.  We ask you to participate in an Evening of Liturgy on Friday, October 6 at 7:00 pm with Father Sam Sirianni, Director of the Office of Worship.  He will walk all of us parishioners through the changes and how we will now be responding at Mass.  Please also watch the parent newsletters and handouts which will be coming home with the children to better help us participate at Mass and become familiar with the new responses, which will be implemented beginning on the First Sunday of Advent this year.  We also have a brand new parish website.  Visit it often!

The very best way to involve the children in these changes is always weekly participation at Mass. As they celebrate liturgy with the parish community, they come to better understand the community we call parish, the roles that all of us live in the parish, and the need to have a supportive, nurturing group of people enabling our children to grow in their faith.  One of the most dedicated parish ministries involves our volunteer catechists, many of whom are interested parents who have come forward to serve and be certified as teachers of the faith.  We are most grateful for these parishioners whose lives manifest a lived, vibrant faith and ask you to continue to support them throughout the year.

The primary catechist continues to be you, the parents.  We look forward to walking the catechetical journey with you this year, particularly as we renew our commitment to the liturgy.  As we receive the Body and Blood of Christ, we celebrate our oneness in eucharist as members of Christ’s body.  May our “Amen” ring true this year and go forth to all the world.
