Our Nursery curriculum focuses on social, motor, language, visual and math development. This curriculum is provided in a loving and safe environment which is faith based. We are teaching the children to respect themselves and others. We work on all of these areas together through daily routines and activities.
Social - Social growth is developed in both large and small group settings. We are teaching the children to play and work cooperatively together. The children are taught how to work out problems, and how to ask for help when they need it. Through all aspects of our daily routine the children are learning how to listen and follow directions. We start with one-step directions and build up to two-step directions.
Motor - Throughout the year we will be working on both gross and fine motor skills. In the area of gross motor we work on running, jumping, and hopping. In the area of fine motor we work on small muscle coordination such as stringing beads and building with blocks. We also begin to work on crayon, pencil, and scissor control.
Language - Language is used in every aspect of our day. We work with the children to speak in sentences, and participate in group discussions. The children also must verbally identify their colors, shapes and numbers 1-5.
Visual - Visual skills are also taught throughout the year. The children match colors, shapes and sizes. We also work on shape and color recognition. Also the children work on recognizing their first names and the letters in their first name.
Math - Children will begin to recognize the basic shapes as well as numbers 1-5. The children will count by rote to 10. We will also begin to explore patterning, sorting and classifying. The children will become familiar with the seasons, days of the week, and months of the year.
Religion – We follow a Religion series which is called I Am Special. This series focuses on making your child feel special. It is broken down into three units. The first unit is called Look At Me. In this unit the children learn about what makes each of them special. The second unit is called Look Around Me. In this unit the children learn about what makes the world around them special. The third unit is called Let’s Celebrate and it focuses on the Holidays.
