Go for the Gold

As I sit here this morning with a cup of coffee and reflect on the months leading up to last night’s Go For the Gold
event, I can’t help feeling overjoyed. All the hard work and long hours came to life last night.  And what a night it was!!
Everyone I spoke to was awe struck and complemented us on a job well done.  I made sure I let everyone know that
Dennis and I could not deliver an event of this magnitude without the help of many fathers and mothers.  I understand
that time is at a premium for all of us and we all wish we had more of it.  Many of you sacrificed your time to help put on
a truly First Class Event.  For this I am truly thankful.

It is hard to believe that the past year flew by so quickly. It feels like yesterday that Dennis and I sat down with Leslie
Pellegrino and Denise Monahan to pick a date and discuss this year’s event.  The planning and organizing of this event
has been a memorable experience for me. I had an opportunity to meet many new fathers and work closely with several
of you. It was great to share ideas and thoughts on how to make Go For The Gold a truly memorable event.

I would like to thank, Leslie Pellegrino for her positive inspiration over the last few months leading up to last night.
Thank you to our PTA liaison, Denise Monahan.  She was our voice to the PTA and was there to offer advice when we
needed it. I would like to thank Lisa Shallow, PTA Treasurer, for helping track the financial reporting.  I would like to
thank Mr. McGowan and Mrs. Turowski for their efforts in coordinating the interaction with the school. Thank you to
all of the committee members who helped with every aspect of the event, from braving cold weather to sell 50/50
tickets, to making calls to sponsors, to helping organize prizes and decorating Riverton Country Club. Thank you to
those who worked behind the scenes with the sponsorship letters, event booklet and website. I would like to thank the
moms who helped with the decorating, prizes setting up.

A truly special thank you to my Co-Chair Dennis Riley, if not for him, this event would not enjoy the success it does.
He has been a valuable partner the last two years giving of his time and efforts to insure Go For The Gold and OLGC
prosper. His inspiration has kept me engaged and focused on the task at hand. I would be remiss if I did not thank
Kathleen Riley for her countless hours of making sure the prize baskets were assembled. Not only have Dennis and
I worked on this project as Co-chairmen but I believe I have made a friend for life. Thank You Dennis !!!!

When we reflect on the success of the event I am humbled at the generosity of many sponsors, school families,
parishioners and friends.  Without them, this event would not be as successful as it is. The ultimate benefactors
of Go For The Gold are the children of Our Lady of Good Counsel School. The funds raised at this event allow the
PTA to contribute money back to the school.

As I think of my closing the following quote from Vincent Lombardi holds true:

“The achievements of an organization are the results of the combined effort of each individual.”

 Thank you

 Peter Sciortino
