Covenant House New Jersey - Student/Young Adult Sleep Out

Covenant House was established more than 40 years ago to address the ongoing needs of homeless youth. Founded in New York City, they now operate shelters and outreach efforts internationally. In New Jersey, Covenant House has shelters in Newark, Atlantic City, Asbury Park and Camden. Almost all of the work of Covenant House is funded by private donations. The Sleep Out initiative has been operating now for almost a decade and gives participants a chance to find out more about the mission of Covenant House, while also raising some additional funding.

Sleep Out - 2019

Sleep Out 2019

Father Jim has participated or led Sleep Outs for Covenant House for six years, raising awareness of the needs of homeless youth. This year, the Community Sleep Out was held on March 1st, the same evening as our parish Confirmation, so we elected to partner with some local teens who have also participated in past Sleep Out events to host a “Student Edition” here at OLGC.

This year, a special “Student Edition” of the Sleep Out will be hosted at OLGC on Friday evening, April 19th, from 7PM to 6:30 AM.  Please consider supporting or joining our team!  Registration is open to students from 8th grade through High school, along with Young Adults. Parents as chaperones are welcome to join our team, too!

Registration is required both by Covenant House and by OLGC in order to ensure the safe operation of the Sleep Out. All participants under the age of 18 require a parent permission form which will include emergency contact information. Participants will provide your own sleeping bag, and the event will take place in the OLGC parking lot - weather permitting! OLGC will provide food and beverages in the evening, along with bagels as we wrap up the event in the early morning. If the weather does not cooperate, then we will take advantage of the parish gymnasium and we will “sleep in” for the night. To register or sponsor our team, please select a button below:
